Prism Percussion is excited to announce our 2023-2024 season! As we embark on our fifth year as a duo, we plan to showcase some of our favorite repertoire from past performances AND present new repertoire with guest artists.

We start our season with an intimate house concert at a private residence in the Castro neighborhood. This house concert will comprise of repertoire suitable for smaller spaces.

Shared Spaces will feature the works of Ivan Trevino, Rafael Alberto, Leonardo Gorosito, Bruce A. Russell aka Ibrahim El Mahboob, and Hiroto Kobayashi. Trevino's beautiful melodies for four hands-one marimba and four hands-one guitar (yes, guitars can be percussion instruments) complement Alberto and Gorosito's groove-centeric music for shakers and bells. Russell's use of kalimbas in canon create interlocking rhythms and ever-flowing melodies. Kobayashi's For two, for Utari, originally written for Utari Duo, also utilizes four hands-one marimba. The use of smaller instruments will not fail to produce big sounds and musical intricacies resulting in an engaging visual and aural experience that is uniquely Prism Percussion.

Prism Percussion presents “2+1”, an evening of Prism and friends! The recital will feature works by Ivan Trevino, Hiroto Kobayashi, Inti Figgis-Vizueta, Juri Seo, and Nicholas Pavkovic. Prism Percussion is joined by guest artists Mika Nakamura (percussion) and Nicholas Pavkovic (keyboard).

McRoskey Mattress Company provides an idyllic setting for soaring marimba melodies. Music for four-hand marimba by Trevino and Kobayashi will be complemented with Figgis-Vizueta and Seo’s pieces for accessory percussion employing contemporary techniques. The recital culminates with the West Coast premiere of Pavkovic’s “Transit” for mallet duo and keyboard, featuring Pavkovic on keyboard.
